Adlan Elamin

Name: Adlan Elamin

Age: 20 years old

Height: 6’9”

College: Cincinnati Bearcats (Transferred from Utah State)

Class: Sophomore

Position: Forward / Wing

Strength

Defensive Versatility

  • On Ball Defense: Long, wiry athlete who is a great perimeter defender and has extremely impressive positional lateral quickness. Comfortable pressuring any ballhandler on the court no matter where they have the ball. High energy defender who enjoys taking on the challenge guarding the best player and using his wingspan and athleticism to make them uncomfortable.

  • Help Defense: Very active in the gap on defense, never relaxes when he is off the ball. His length and vertical ability allows him to be a threat to come over and block a shot or create a deflection at any time. (1.2 stocks per game)

  • Shot Contesting: Rare to see ballhandlers create an open shot in isolation situations against him. Does a good job consistently getting contests without fouling. Never gives up on the play and is a huge threat in chase down block situations.

  • Switchability: At Utah State coaches relied on him switching 1-5 without any drop off. Is able to match up with guards taking the ball up the court with good ball pressure while not getting beat off the dribble. On ball screens he's very good at meeting ball handlers at the level to switch and when needed is able to get over ball screens without trouble.

Offensive

  • Play finishing: Constantly makes himself available for teammates by having a good feel of when to cut, spacing the floor for catch and shoot opportunities and is an elite player when running in transition.

  • Finishing Ability: His twitchy athleticism combined with long arms makes him an elite lob threat in half court and transition. Has very nice touch for his size which allows him to pull off some skillful finishes around the rim.

  • Shot Creation: His long stride and quick first step make it difficult for taller defenders to cut him off when he attacks off the catch. Has a solid handle and is able to find open teammates in dump off situations when he draws multiple defenders on paint touches.

  • Shooting: Streaky shooter who had an average shooting season from distance but his smooth shot mechanics and 83% free throw percentage leave room for improvement. Shot 30.2% on 3’s this past year but is confident in his shot off the catch and off the dribble.

Basketball IQ and Intangibles

  • Basketball IQ: Shows flashes of high basketball IQ with his off ball movement and dump offs on drives to the paint. Good help side instincts on defense and is always one of the most active defenders on the floor.

  • Rebounding: Active rebounder on both ends and has a very quick 2nd jump. Huge threat for put back dunks and tip outs for 2nd chance opportunities.

  • Hustle: Always engaged and is willing to bring energy on both ends of the floor.

  • Motor and Conditioning: Has good endurance, doesn't lose intensity and takes zero plays off.

  • Leadership: A good teammate who enjoys seeing others succeed and appears to be very coachable.

Weakness

  • Physicality: His athleticism can be negated when opponents are able to get into his chest and move him off his spot. Elamin’s lack of physical presence often shows up on box outs and fighting for position down low.

  • Offensively raw: Needs to polish his game offensively specifically with his footwork and knowing when to pick his spots to be aggressive. Has gotten called for traveling multiple times on drives when his feet are moving faster than the rest of his body. Getting in the lane under control, playing off 2 feet and making a read is where he can grow a lot.

Injury History

No documented injury history

Extra Notes

An uber athletic 6’9 forward who is versatile on both ends of the floor. Can rely on him for defensive switchability 1-5 without any drop off in ball pressure. Very good connective piece to have on your offense that can be a play finisher on lobs, catch and shoot 3’s and drives off the catch. Brings nonstop energy and his skillset, length and athleticism translate well to the next.
